Reale Accademia di Musica originated from the ashes of Fholks, an Italian band from Rome known for the late sixties single “Mi scorri nelle vene” (you flow through my veins) produced by Maurizio Vandelli.
Their numerous live appearances include performances at all the main pop festivals of the time, and support acts for Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd.
In the winter of 1971-72 a new band was formed by composer and guitarist Pericle Sponzilli and other Fholks members inclined to experiment with wider musical horizons and to adventure into more personal sonorities.
By the end of 1972 the band had been named Reale Accademia di Musica and their self-titled debut album was published. Nowadays “Reale Accademia di Musica” is considered an essential release by fans of the genre and is widely recognised as a legendary international progressive rock album.
Once the recording sessions were completed, guitarist and songwriter Pericle Sponzilli moved to India and the band was consequently dissolved.
In 2018 Sponzilli decided to take the reins of the project again and revive it by steering classic progressive genre elements to navigate contemporary waters. He invited on board his friend Fabio Liberatori, member of Stadio and Lucio Dalla collaborator, Erika Savastani of Deserto Rosso and Fabio Fraschini. This mix of different talents and experiences blended together beautifully and generated a stimulating creative synergy. Thus, a new album “Angeli Mutanti” (Mutant Angels) was recorded and then published by M.P. & Records. The album was well received widely including in Latin America, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Canada and the Netherlands.
The good outcome encouraged Sponzilli and Liberatori to write new material and the now tightly bonded band recorded a new album supported on this occasion by producer and musician Danilo Pao. Although the Covid pandemic slowed down the process, the new album “Lame di Luce” (blades of light) will be finally published by Sony Music in November 2022.
